Steek (noun): A knitting technique; creation of a planned opening in a circularly knit item by cutting the knitting to open the hole; an action that brings terror to the minds of many knitters.
You’ve spent weeks knitting a project, and now you are supposed to cut it? Kitty Bryan will teach you how to cut and finish knitted steeks without fear. This course will show you why cutting your knitting can actually be a good thing. You’ll learn the dos and don’ts of properly creating, preparing and cutting steeks and how to create hand-sewn and crocheted steeks-- all while making an adorable coffee cozy. Homework is required. A “sacrificial” tube and a coffee cozy will be knit before class. The tube and the cozy will be steeked in class.
Materials needed: 2 colors of sportweight non-superwash yarn (about 55 yards each), set of 2 US 2 16" circular needles or set of US 2 double-pointed needles
Homework: A pattern for the tube and cozy will be emailed upon enrollment.
